It has been a little while since we have seen the likes of speaker maker Andrew Jones interviewed on The Occasional Podcast. One of HiFi’s most well known designers, this week’s appearance of Mr. Jones marks the 4th time he has graced us with his presence on the Podcast. A new $5k floorstanding speaker was the big reveal at this year’s Chicago audio show (shipping in June), and we have all the details from the man himself this week.
In addition to the full breakdown of his latest endeavors, Andrew breaks off into some significant opinions about the measurements, and specifically, the “Harman Curve” that is a very popular talking point for forum and online communities in the audiophile realm. He has quite a bit of first-hand experience on the subject, being both employed by Harman on one point, and working with many of the researchers over his long career. Andrew does a great job explaining complex topics with a demeanor that is both detailed, but easily understood – a great listen for both newcomers to the hobby and those looking to get a more detailed look at how things are actually created in the market.
