Mytek and Børresen | Munich 2024

mytek and Børresen

If you look closely at this Mytek system at Munich 2024, you’ll note that it’s pretty much the same system as the one I covered last month at AXPONA 2024. You have the flagship Mytek Empire streamer ($25K), a pair of the Mytek GanFET monoblocks ($10K/pair), and the Brooklyn Bridge II DAC/streamer that I currently have in for review ($5K). There’s only one difference–those Børresen X3 speakers. Yes, this is the Mytek and Børresen room, and it sounded spectacular.

When I spoke with Michal Jurewicz of Mytek at AXPONA, he asked my opinion of Børresen speakers. “Have you read my reviews?” I thought, but that’s a little snarky. He asked me specifically about the Børresen X3 speakers that Greg Weaver recently reviewed for us, and how the value is off the charts. It’s tough to find another speaker that accomplishes so much for a reasonable $12k/pair. Just a few weeks later, Michal had his Mytek and Børresen room fully dialed in and making beautiful music.

It’s strange, but the Mytek and Børresen room represented the first time I’ve seen a product from Audio Group Denmark in a high-end audio show room share. Usually, the four AGD brands–Aavik, Børresen, Ansuz and Axxess–are shown together because of the obvious synergy. The pairing was a success, however–my main takeaway from this room was yet another confirmation of the excellence of the X3, and how Audio Group Denmark pulled off a miracle by making their entry-level gear very, very close to their flagship lines.

But let’s talk about Mytek’s role with this stunning and fairly affordable system. My initial impressions of the Brooklyn Bridge II back in my home system confirmed just how innovative and confident the Mytek gear sounds. It’s easy to use, and it sounds great. In the Mytek and Børresen room, however, I heard something a little different, an unexpected synergy that leads me to believe that the X3 isn’t just a stunning loudspeaker within an AGD system. It’s a loudspeaker that everyone needs to audition before spending $12,000 on something else.
